“Dengue Fever" : Prevention is better than cure. Pakistan

The dengue fever outbreak in Pakistan has officially become an epidemic, reports the International News Network. Hundreds of people have died of the disease and more than 8000 people have been infected. Dengue fever is an infectious disease transmitted to humans through the bite of a mosquito carrying the virus. Characteristics of the disease include fever, severe headache, muscular and joint pains, and rash. The disease is non-fatal, reports The Nation.

Poor hygiene is the most common cause for the spread of the disease, but heavy rainfall is providing a breeding ground for the mosquitoes, Doctors advised that dengue fever affected patients should ensure the maximum use of boiled water, besides, using honey in normally hot water. The common use of fruit like oranges, guava, apple and Kalwanji and black pepper could also help prevent the dengue fever, especially in growing children.

This information is about Dengue fever for my friends and all the people around who are infected or not  because it is better to stop something bad happening than it is to deal with it after it has happened as we all know very well that prevention is better than cure. Dengue Fever Treatment and Management

Dengue fever is usually a self-limited illness, and only supportive care is required. Acetaminophen may be used to treat patients with symptomatic fever. Aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and corticosteroids should be avoided.

Patients with known or suspected dengue fever should have their platelet count and hematocrit measured daily from the third day of illness until 1-2 days after defervescence. Patients with a rising hematocrit level or falling platelet count should have intravascular volume deficits replaced. Patients who improve can continue to be monitored in an outpatient setting. Patients who do not improve should be admitted to the hospital for continued hydration.

Patients who develop signs of dengue hemorrhagic fever warrant closer observation. Patients who develop signs of dehydration, such as tachycardia, prolonged capillary refill time, cool or mottled skin, diminished pulse amplitude, altered mental status, decreased urine output, rise in hematocrit levels, narrowed pulse pressure, or hypotension, require admission for intravenous fluid administration.

Successful management of severe dengue requires careful attention to fluid management and proactive treatment of hemorrhage. Intravascular volume deficits should be corrected with isotonic fluids such as Ringers lactate solution. Boluses of 10-20 mL/kg should be given over 20 minutes and may be repeated. If this fails to correct the deficit, the hematocrit value should be determined, and, if it is rising, limited clinical information suggests that a plasma expander may be administered. Starch, dextran 40, or albumin 5% at a dose of 10-20 mL/kg may be used. One recent study has suggested that starch may be preferable because of hypersensitivity reactions to dextran.If the patient does not improve after this, blood loss should be considered. Patients with internal or gastrointestinal bleeding may require transfusion. Patients with coagulopathy may require fresh frozen plasma.

After patients with dehydration are stabilized, they usually require intravenous fluids for no more than 24-48 hours. Intravenous fluids should be stopped when the hematocrit level falls below 40% and adequate intravascular volume is present. At this time, patients reabsorb extravasated fluid and are at risk for volume overload if intravenous fluids are continued. Do not interpret a falling hematocrit value in a clinically improving patient as a sign of internal bleeding.

Platelet and fresh frozen plasma transfusions may be required to control severe bleeding. A recent case report demonstrated good improvement following intravenous anti-D globulin administration in two patients. The authors proposed that, similarly to nondengue forms of immune thrombocytopenic purpura, intravenous anti-D produces Fcγ receptor blockade to raise platelet counts.

Patients who are resuscitated from shock rapidly recover. Patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome may be discharged from the hospital when they meet the following criteria:

• Afebrile for 24 hours without antipyretics
• Good appetite, clinically improved condition
• Adequate urine output
• Stable hematocrit level
• At least 48 hours since recovery from shock
• Absence of respiratory distress
• Platelet count greater than 50,000 cells/μL

Remembering 6th Sept 1965 : Incredible images from the War Zone

 'Pakistan Defence Day' 

September 6th is a red letter day in the history of Pakistan when our armed forces with the solid support of the people exhibited extraordinary courage in grave threats to the country as on this day in 1965, the armed forces successfully defended the motherland against the invasion of Indian Army without any formal declaration of war. 6th September is marked as the 'Defence Day' of Pakistan. 

Defence day celebrations across the country with renewed pledge, commitment and resolve to defend the ideological and geographical boundaries of the country from any aggression in line with the spirit and unity exhibited by the whole nation by standing shoulder to shoulder with defenders of the motherland. Today every year we pay homage to our brave martyred and courage of our soldiers who defended country heroically.

There are signs for people who understand

Well, one day i was on my way to Daman-e-Koh, (A picnic spot at Margallag hills) i found this tree near  a road side khoka or refreshment center, first when i sew this tree, it was looking like other normal trees, but when i gave it a little more attention i found some thing strange in it. that's why i captured some pictures and now sharing with you, hope you will find it too what i saw in that tree!! 

If even then you don't find it, see the image below, it is ALLAH is Arabic, at that moment this particular ayat came in my mind  "We will show them Our signs in all the regions of the earth and in their own souls, until they clearly see that this is the truth ..." (Surah Fussilat, 41:53)

Moin Akhtar, you'll always be in our hearts and memories

The legend Moin Akhtar, who was famous for his versatile acting, 

died on April 22, 2011 from a heart attack at the age of 61.

An average Moin Akhtar fan cannot easily explain the wellsprings of his art. It seems that it comes from within. Pride of Performance Moin Akhtar was a role model for anyone who aspires to become an entertainer. He was great in each and every work he done, A great artist, comedian, impersonator, host, Pakistani movie, drama, TV and theater actor , writer, singer, director and producer. He was an institution in one personality, a God gifted talented man with every thing which we can find in different individuals of his field. His eyes always smiled with the joy of today, the promise of tomorrow, Once He said: 'I have confidence in my own abilities.' He was the most entertaining and decent person on television i have ever seen. Before his television debut he had been working for karachi radio and later on stage, television and the silver screen. His famous stage plays include “Bachao Moin Akhtar”(Save Moin Akhtar) and “Excuse Me Baba”, and his famous television plays include “Half Plate”, “Sach Much”, "Bandar road se Kemari" and “Rozi”. His parody in English, Urdu, Sindhi, Bengali, Punjabi, Memon, Pushto, Gujrati and many other dialects distinguish him from all other entertainers.

Journey of Moin Akhtar starts with a variety show was held in Karachi on September 6, 1966, on defense day of Pakistan. A skinny youth by the name of Moin Akhtar stepped up on the stage and entertained the audience with sound effects, he also copied the voice and gestures of various Pakistani luminaries,  public who were all wearing smiles chanted: 'Once more, once more". People felt power in that boy's voice. He acted with confidence. There was a strange, enchanting way he conducted himself. He had the honor to be the host of most valuable shows in which the head of states from Pakistan and abroad were invited. People from all walk of life in Pakistan & south Asian from all over the world condoled his death. He was the most loved TV person all over the country.

Once in an interview he said , “I want to stay alive in the hearts and minds of the people, even after I am gone.”  Yes Moin sahab you'll always be alive in our hearts. You are not just a man but you have spread Smiles on so many faces that are shredding tears today for their legendry Moin AKhtar who is eternal for his fans. You'll always live in our hearts. People come and People Go but for every Pakistani Moin Akhtar is a part of their family. We love you Moin Akhtar May ALLAH bless you with the best place he has in the heavens and may your soul rest in peace forever. Ameen.  "Inna lillahi wainna ilahi Rajioon"

73rd death Anniversary of Allama M. Iqbal, (Poet of the East)

Today we are all witnessing the 73rd death Anniversary of Our great poet and the first man to dream Pakistan Doctor Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The message of Iqbal is a way of prosperity for any nation but unfortunately the path we followed after the establishment of Pakistan is against the theory of Iqbal. The last 9 years of dictatorship is the proof of our non Iqbal thinking. In such situation how we can justify with the thought of "Khudi" into our nation's common practice? The problems and situation of so called civilization in the 21st century is opening the doors towards the enlightened message of the great Thinker who always wanted the youth not to draw a line between religion and civilization, He always taught us that our youth has the power and strength  to bright the whole nation's future, They have the power of their beautiful religion which has opened the larger than life path for success and prosperity for them. He always insisted that the youth is the backbone of any country's prosperity. The educated, Well developed, Self respected, Courage s, Enthusiastic youth who moves with the light of Quranic teachings.

In every poem of Iqbal there is a message of Positive thinking, Motivation, Mutual understandings and Khudi that is Self confidence. It is still not too late if  we start to follow his teachings as a nation rather just making tributes and speech competitions on his name. We have to implement his teachings in the whole system and we would be a different nation after some time.

Writing a condolence is sometimes very difficult because don't know what to say exactly & especially when you face multiple incident like 152 people on board were confirmed dead in aircraft crash Islamabad & more than 400+ lost there lives because of heavy flood & rain throughout Pakistan. These incidents are saddened all of us. We are shocked & are in pain.

I would only like to stress my sincere condolences to the families and also to the crew members & all who have lost their lives cause of flood. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and there families on this difficult days, May the almighty Allah rest the souls of the departed in eternal peace.

Pakistan Military Exercise Azm-e-Nau 3

The ongoing exercise is the finale of a yearlong training process in light of the directives of Army Chief Ashfaq Kayani, who declared 2009-10 as the "Year of Training". To provide them with a real "feel of the battleground", the troops have been divided into two groups, Blue Land and Fox Land, with the former playing the defendant and the latter an enemy.

The demonstration of tank brigades and anti aircraft missiles along with impressive display of conventional firepower during the exercise is a signal of military valor. Special feature of this exercise would be harvesting the technological achievements advancements in intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance and communication means that have revolutionized warfare.

Pakistan’s official military budget is about $4 billion while India’s military budget, however, is close to $32 billion and is one of the world’s major arms buyers. Hanging over any conflict between the neighbors is the specter of nuclear war. Pakistan has publicly hinted that battlefield tactical nuclear weapons might be used on its own soil to balance India’s conventional superiority and repel any incursion.

While tracing the dynamics and the milieu under which Exercise Azm-e-Nau-III (the biggest Military Exercises after the Zarb-e-Momin of 1989), is being conducted, it is pertinent to say that this exercise is concept validation; a part of the "eternal preparedness" philosophy of the Pakistan Army. Its successful conduct would help in evolving a timely and effective response to emerging challenges. As General Kayani said, "We are focused to the defense of Pakistan and fully capable of defending Pakistan today." Pakistan indeed does not pose threat to any country, but the preparedness is for self-defense, which is our fundamental right. While comprehending the significance of regional peace and Pakistan’s commitment to it, the armed forces are ready to maintain that through a thorough preparation and by maintaining minimum credible deterrence

At present Pakistan is facing the worst security challenges of its history. None of the Pakistani borders can be called peaceful. The American war against terror has changed Pakistan into a bloody battle field. Foreign supported miscreants in the garb of militants are trying their best to change Pakistan into a barren land. Suicidal attacks on innocent citizens have up till now taken the lives of thousands of people. The worst example of this brutality was the suicidal attack on the people who were protesting against the electricity load-shedding in Peshawar on 19th of April. This attack took the lives of more than 30 people. The most important point to be noted regarding this attack is that the protest was organized by the Jamat-e-Islami; which is always blamed and criticized for its inclination towards the Islamic extremist groups. This suicidal attack proved that the hands behind these terrorist activities do not belong to any of the so-called Muslim militants. This is surely a very serious and grave situation with reference to the security and existence of Pakistan.

Pakistan Army is very well aware of the role the nation is expecting from it to play. The recent Azm-e-Nau exercises could be taken as a massage to the nation from the Pakistan Army that it has the best possible capabilities and abilities to face all these challenges and it knows very well how to take care of the national interests. As mentioned by the Prime Minister Gillani, Pakistan has no ill-will against any country and these exercises are just a routine practice; a part and parcel of military training programs throughout the world. After watching these exercises he was more confident that Pakistan Army could not be rivaled by any military in the world. He said the exercises were the epoch making professional activity of the Pakistani armed forces. Pakistan is a peace loving country. It has always rejected and discouraged every activity which could cause a loss to the calm and peace of the region but it can never ignore value, need and importance of its own security.

Pakistan would have never tried to emphasize more on its defense affairs if its ‘ever-loving’ neighbour India had not over-involved itself in making new weapons and in signing more nuclear deals. Such behavior of India is generating a feeling of insecurity among the neighboring countries including Pakistan. Being an important country of the South Asian region it is the responsibility of India to play the role of an elder one. It must project peace and harmony in the region. It would be a clear misjudgment and blunt misunderstanding if India takes the Azm-e-Nau Exercises as a threat to its own security. These exercises had nothing to do particularly with India; they were simply a rehearsal and a warming up activity against all types of terrorists and terrorist activities. However India must be worried if it thinks that it is involved in any kind of terrorist activity against Pakistan because Pakistan has solemnly vowed to crush each and every element involved in any shape of terrorism within, along or outside its borders.

This is being done in the perspective that in the current global scenario, Pakistan is facing several strategic challenges. It desires peace and harmony, without compromising the minimum credible and sustainable strategic deterrence.

Pakistan feels that if its fight against terrorism has become an inevitable, it cannot leave its eastern borders at the promises of its incredible friends. As pointed out by Dr. Henry Kissinger, the former U.S Secretary of State that, in the international politics, there neither exist permanent friends nor permanent foes. Rather these are the national interests of states which determine their future course of action. It is beyond doubt that, international politics is essentially a struggle for power. It is attributed to security competition and inter-state conflicts, mainly arose owing to the lack of an overarching authority above states and the relative distribution of power in the international system.

Pakistan has already faced the dilemma in 1971, where its friends never came to rescue it, once its eastern neighbor attacked and dismembered it. Indeed, as per the realist’s school of global politics, "all states wish to perpetuate their existence". While revisiting the history, one finds that actions of some states resulted in other states losing their existence. Poland, for example experienced this fate for the four times in the last three centuries. Munich Conference of 1938 could not save Czechoslovakia from seizure by Nazi Germany. Indeed, power is crucial to the realist lexicon and traditionally has been defined in military stratagem. Intuitively states with more power stands a better chance of surviving than states with less power. Irrespective of how much power a state may possess, the core national interest of all states is the survival. In the realistic world, the states should not depend on other states or institutions (like UNO) to ensure their own security. As "Unlike in domestic politics, there is no emergency number that states can dial when they are in mortal danger".

Through a series of successive military operations against terrorists and demonstration superior strategy through Exercise Azm-e-Nau-III, today Pak Army stands at a higher podium of professional excellence. Its present leadership has successively dispelled the global misperceptions, by highlighting the achievements of Pak Army at various forums. There exists a global recognition of Armed Forces of Pakistan as the best fighting entity having the capability to deal with internal insurgencies/ terrorism, natural calamities and to fight the external threat alike. The simultaneous engagement to quell the terrorism and perfecting drills and battle procedures through Exercise Azm-e-Nau is indeed a unique example of projecting the power potential by Armed Forces of Pakistan. It is expected that capabilities of Pak Army will act as force multipliers by reducing the fog of war for own troops, obviating enemy surprise and reducing own reaction time.

Salute to the brave soldiers of Pakistan and all the prayers and wishes for them. May God give them strength and courage to fight against all odds.

Pakistan is staging the largest military exercise (war games) since the Zarb-e-Momin war-games in 1989, titled "Azm-e-Nau-3", which translates as "New Resolve", started on April 10 and will continue until May 20. The six-week field exercise involves more than 50,000 troops belonging to all arms and services besides engagement of various aircraft and equipment of the Pakistan Air Force while about 150,000 troops are still engaged in the fight with the Taliban on the western border. It is both a warning and a show of confidence to the world that we are capable enough to defend our homeland whether eastern or western border.

T-20 Boom Boom Pakistan

As compared to the last year ICC T-20 world Cup defending champion Pakistan started tournament strongly with a 21 runs win against Bangladesh & then lost against Australia, Pakistan had suffered an early bating collapse & a solid team effort allowed Australia to set a competitive win but after dismissing Bangladesh by Australia, defending champion runs in the Super 8 stage.

Today Pakistan will take on England in the first match of Super Eight at Oval, Bridgetown. After surviving Bangladesh dismissed, Pakistan will try to start the Twenty20 World Cup campaign more confidently against England while England also lost one match & another match was called off due to rain. Today’s match for English team is real encounter in the T20 World Cup.

Pakistan team is considered a strong but unpredictable team. Traditionally Pakistani cricket has been filled with players of great talent, If we play to the best of our ability, then we have a great chance of winning T20 Cup again & defend our title.

As a Pakistani we all are look forward to our team & know that they have ability to make us happy & proud again, best of Luck team Pakistan for today & rest of the tournament.

12 March 2010 'A Black Day' Lahore bombings were a series of bombings in Lahore. It was the second attack in Lahore that week, following a bomb explosion at an intelligence headquarters on 8 March 2010. The blasts wounded about 100 people, mostly civilians, and killed at as many as 50 plus of which ten were soldiers. In the late afternoon, 7 more bombs were detonated in an Iqbal Town market, but their main consequence was panic some windows were broken, and a car was damaged, and three injuries were reported. President PM, Punjab Chief Minister condemned (as Prime duty) the attacks and said the victims would be compensated.
